The tenor trombone is the most common trombone, becoming a standard in both orchestras and jazz ensembles thanks to its vocal qualities and soft yet powerful sound, capable of cutting through even the most complex arrangements and mixes. The muted tenor trombone retains these characteristics while adding a softer, more lyrical dimension. Its timbre ranges from a quiet whisper to commanding phrasings, making it indispensable for both solo and ensemble performances. Recorded on our specially equipped “quiet stage” with dense and controlled acoustics, you can experience the true tone of the muted tenor trombone in your studio.
Velvety Tone
The muted tenor trombone utilizes two different types of dampers (straight mute and harmonic mute). They offer a soft yet rich tone that blends harmoniously with various string, woodwind, or brass sections and is ideal for lyrical, melodic solos.
Smooth Action
The trombone’s slide action provides smooth, gliding transitions between notes, further enhanced by the subtle coloring of the mute. This library captures every nuance, from smooth glissandos to resonant dynamics, allowing the characteristic sound of the muted trombone to bring warmth, tension, or a touch of melancholy to a wide range of musical genres.
Versatility and Expressiveness
The library includes a full range of expressive and dynamic articulations, offering various short and long notes, legato (including fast legato), crescendo and diminuendo, sfz, sffz, pfp, tongue tremolo, as well as semitone and whole-tone trills. Recording samples in relatively dry form on the Silent Stage allows you to place them anywhere in your virtual stage and stereo field, and integrate the instrument with the Synchron series using an internal convolution reverb that recreates our own Vienna Synchron Stage.
