The flugelhorn, known for its soft, rich, and darker sound, which distinguishes it from the bright, harsh trumpet, is ideal for chamber solos and expressive, lyrical passages. Its deep tone and mellow timbre lend it a soulful and introspective quality, making it a favorite in a wide variety of genres, from classical to jazz and beyond.

The Origins of Wind Instruments

The B-flat flugelhorn belongs to the horn family, along with instruments such as the euphonium and (contra)bass tuba, although it resembles a large trumpet. Its name derives from the 18th-century flugelhorn, which was used to coordinate regimental flanking attacks during battle.

Besides its use in military and marching bands, the flugelhorn’s velvety, rich tone brings warmth to graceful melodic lines, making it an ideal choice for jazz, where its soft sound complements the genre’s improvisational and dynamic solo style.

Versatile and Expressive

The library includes a full range of expressive and dynamic articulations, offering a variety of short and long notes, legato (including fast legato), crescendo and diminuendo, sfz, sffz, pfp, tongue tremolo, as well as semitone and whole-tone trills. Recording samples in relatively dry form on the Silent Stage allows you to place them anywhere in your virtual stage and stereo field, and integrate the instrument with the Synchron series using the internal convolution reverb, recreating our own Vienna Synchron Stag.
