The trio consisted of: Sting (vocals, bass guitar), Andy Summers (guitar, vocals) and Stewart Copeland (drums, percussion, vocals). The band became famous worldwide in the late 1970s and are generally considered one of the first new wave bands to achieve success with a wide audience, playing a rock style that was influenced by jazz, punk and reggae. Their 1983 album “Synchronicity” became number one in the UK and US charts and sold over 8 million copies in the United States alone.
