The Police (pronounced “Polis”) are a British rock band formed in London in 1977. The trio consisted of: Sting (vocals, bass guitar), Andy Summers (guitar, vocals) and Stewart Copeland (drums, percussion, vocals). The band became famous worldwide in the late 1970s and are generally considered one of the first new wave bands to achieve mainstream success by playing a rock style influenced by jazz, punk and reggae. Their 1983 album “Synchronicity” became number one in the UK and US charts and sold over 8 million copies in the US alone.
