Talking Heads is an American rock band formed in 1975 in New York City and performing stylistically diverse new wave rock using numerous outside influences (funk, classical minimalism, African rhythms, etc.). By the time of the release of their last album in 1988, Talking Heads had become one of the most revered bands among music experts; at times (according to Allmusic) abusing experimentalism, at their best they “represented the best that art-school-punk was capable of.” Ten of the band’s albums have appeared on the Billboard 200, with Talking in Tongues (#15, 1983) achieving their highest position there.
The band’s highest singles chart position is #9 (“Burning Down the House”, 1983). The band officially existed until 1991, five years later reforming as The Heads (without Byrne) and recording the album No Talking Just Head.
