We are teaming up with BAFTA-winning Icelandic composer Ólafur Arnalds to record an all-star ensemble performing the latest set of impressive pieces. An ensemble of 4,3,3,3,3 British players (violin I + II, viola, cello, double bass), led by longtime Orri Árnason collaborator Victor, performs a series of beautifully evolving phrases recorded at the world famous AIR Studios in London. Using our Evo Grid technology, this library makes it easy to create complex chamber string music from the simplest of arrangements – just a few sustain notes is all you need to write inspiring dynamic textures. We’re also introducing Waves: a brand new and innovative feature with notes that move in a wavelike dynamic arc, appear from nothing, build up and then disappear back into nothingness. They are available through our classic interface in a variety of styles and sizes.
After the release of Symphonic Strings Evolutions, we really wanted to explore the possibilities of the chamber ensemble. We hired Ólafur Arnalds as an employee and the results are truly exceptional. Capturing the details of individual performers, the library has more intimacy than its symphonic counterpart, yet is powerful enough to preserve its own scores and compositions.
Description
As with many other Spitfire libraries, we’re back in the iconic AIR Studios room. Recently, music such as Dunkirk, Beauty and the Beast, Wonder Woman and Paddington 2 has been recorded there, as well as classics such as Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, The Dark Knight and “Gladiator”. We captured the ensemble with multiple mics and mixes: Close, Stereo Pair, Tree and Ambient, using only the finest classic high quality mics – all fed through a one-of-a-kind Neve Pro Tools console and ¼” cassette.
Described by Ólafur as “a sample that you can play for three minutes and that will never sound the same”, this movement has become widespread in the composing community as the most effective means of easily writing music that can change over time without variation in melodic content. . In addition, the ability to generate randomized evolutions allows you to get unexpected results that are inspiring in themselves.
– Feathering: Only half of the players are performing at the same time. This allows you to play different chords and still hear the details of the players.
– Waves: One of Ólafur’s signature sounds is the crescendo-diminuendos, so to save time, either manually or with a fader, a number of pre-recorded “waves” have been recorded for instant gratification.
