Description: The traditional family of hand percussion instruments is usually defined as an open frame drum with large cymbals or jingles. They are similar in appearance and origin to a very large tambourine, but instead of being just an accompaniment, Rik family drums can often play a lead or solo role. Jingles, rattles or rings are often used as an inconspicuous drum component, along with a wide range of unique finger and hand articulations on the top and rim. This vast family of specialized percussion instruments is considered a very serious and deeply developed class of instruments in both traditional and contemporary music of the Middle East, Central Asia and Eastern Europe.
For our multi-sampled Riq Drum library we grabbed a couple of full size drums, one large 15″ “daf” drum from Greece with metal rings and cylinders (actually called daf) and one smaller 13″ riq drum from Egypt with wide tin “cymbals”. “. We also recorded a drum with a toy frame, which we turned into a miniature rick by adding an egg-shaped shaker. We’ve also included a complete collection of atmospheric and sustained ambient instruments, each entirely created through extensive manipulation of the original recordings for this library, and equipped with layered morph, shaping, and effects chaining options.
