Description: Bowed Bucket is the result of combining a plastic barrel, a wooden block and cello strings. The kick drum was fitted with tuning tips and then holes were drilled through which the individual strings pass, using the bottom wall as a bridge so that the sound is projected outwards and downwards. The wooden beam was then attached to the ladle and the strings were pulled upward.
We played with a bow, plucked strings, hit drumsticks to create tons of tonal sounds, and then programmed them into stand-alone instruments. We then manipulated all this raw material to create atmospheric pads and ambiances.
Bowing the strings produces a surprisingly clear, yet rich and robust sound, with plenty of boom and low end. This sound is a bit like an electric cello, but with a unique rawness and body.
We recorded various bow articulations both from inside and outside the barrel. We have also connected our custom polyphonic Sim-legato and Uberpeggiator systems to some instruments. And of course, as a bonus, we’ve also created a number of very cool leads, pads, ambient hums, FX presets to expand your creative possibilities.
