Description :
In 1762, the Spanish organ builder Jordi Bosch built a new organ in
the Parish Church of Sant’Andrea in Santanyi, Mallorca. The two-manual
organ with 40 divided ranks of pipes by Jordi Bosch is a real pearl
among Mallorcan organs. Its monumental and magnificently decorated
façade, made by Fra Albert Borguni, recalls the imperial
pomp of the time and enhances the brilliant sound of the registers.
The organ in Santanyi is one of the best preserved works by Bosch. It has
a rich “Trompeteria” consisting of 9 ranks of horizontal pipes, which is
typical of the Iberian organ school. It carries the sound to the very
corners of the church, thanks to the semicircular arrangement of the Trompeta pipes:
Baixon faces the east, Trompa Magna to the west. Trompa Reial fills
the central position of the “Trompeteria”. Above the organist’s head are two
rows of pipes of horizontally installed reed registers with short
resonators: Regailes and Dolciana.
The main manual is based on a 16-foot Principal, which has a characteristic
Spanish name Flautat maior, which gives a ringing and warm sound
Pleno. The organ has the second largest Mixture register in
the world, consisting of 25 rows and 1104 pipes! It is located at a separate
windlad, which has its own separate motor, and each sound is separately
fed by its 2.5 meter wind conductor. One of
the features of this organ is the Great Cornet register of 10 rows, which
was built on an “elevated” windlad for “better sound”. A secondary
manual called Cadireta hides a register of the
Saboiana type of regal, together with other typical registers like Nasard or Corneta,
Flautat tapad and a couple of aliquots – Dinovena and Siurell. There are some
registers like Bordo, which were first used in the Majorcan
organ-building tradition. Additional information
