The band was founded in 1994 by Stephen Harvel (vocals), Greg Kamp (guitar, backing vocals, songwriter of the band) and Paul De Lisle (bass guitar). The band has gone through three drummers, the most recent drummer Jason Sutter joined the band in March 2006. Among their hits are such songs as Walkin’ on the Sun and All Star. The band was originally called Smashmouth, but after signing a contract with Interscope Records, the band split the name into 2 words Smash Mouth. The band often takes as a basis a retro style that spanned several decades of popularity. This is evident in the songs The Monkees, I’m a Believer. Usually, the band releases only one version of a studio album. The album Astro Lounge, released in 1999, is considered the most commercially successful album of the band.
