Maleventum 2 is a Kontakt library inspired by the ethnic flutes of the ancient Native American cultures of the pre-Hispanic period. Following on from the highly acclaimed Maleventum 1, based on Viking battle horns, we are collaborating with Nomada Ceramica, an Argentinian group of musicians and instrument makers committed to accurately reproducing the flutes of the Aztec, Maya and Inca civilizations over 3,000 years ago.
We have recorded a staggering number of original Aztec flutes and whistles, double flutes, rare panflutes (Antara Nazca), whistles and death figurines (Estatuillas), Tlapitzali (a typical Andean instrument), didgeridoo, war trumpets (known as “Trompeta Moche”, an instrument with a head tiger, which has a special sound), and a one-of-a-kind whistle called Vasija Silbadora (“Whispering Vessel”), which uses a two-vessel hydraulic system to create an eerie, defiant, creature-like call.
