REVOLVER for Kontakt is a Kontakt sound library* based on the sounds of the famous DSI Evolver synthesizer, and gives you a wide collection of vivid and powerful sounds.
Features:
• 253 Kontakt patches (in 7 categories)
• over 1.5 GB of 44kHz/24 bit samples (1956 perfectly looped wav files)
• 12 midi controllable knobs for realtime tweaking and for midi automation of the most important synth parameters
• extensive editing techniques: multiple velocity layers, round-robin, alternate sample starts to achieve fat, lively and realistic analogue sounds
• exclusive IR sample collection for the convolution reverb of Kontakt
* please note: our Kontakt banks require the full retail version of Kontakt 3.5 (or more recent version), they are not compatible with the free Kontakt Player. Revolver is available in Reason refill format as well
Midi implementation
The following simplified MIDI implementation chart is designed as a quick reference guide that allows you to identify at a glance which MIDI control change (CC) messages are implemented by Revolver in Kontakt.
Midi event Effect
CC 07 channel volume
CC 10 channel pan
CC 14 attack time of the filter envelope
CC 15 decay time of the filter envelope
CC 16 release time of the filter envelope
CC 18 filter envelope amount
CC 71 resonance of the internal LP filter
CC 72 release time of the amplitude envelope
CC 73 attack time of the amplitude envelope
CC 74 cutoff frequency of the internal LP filter
CC 75 decay time of the amplitude envelope
CC 76 sustain level of the amplitude envelope
CC 91 adjusts the amount of the insert FX (delay)
CC 94 adjusts the send level of the send FX
In addition, in most cases: modwheel (CC 01) controls the filter modulations, aftertouch adds vibrato effect.
About Evolver
DSI Evolver is an incredible synthesizer that incorporates many of Dave Smith and Sequential’s old secrets, circuits and technologies. It uses a monstrous four oscillator voice architecture – two analogue DCOs and two digital – with two independent Curtis analog low-pass filters.
The analogue oscillators feature multiple classic waveforms plus pulse-width modulation and hard sync, and they sound really nice and big. The digital oscillators feature FM synthesis, Ring Modulation and 96 wavetables. Modulation capabilities are handled by four LFOs and three ADSR envelope generators.
The Evolver’s analog-style sequencer brings itself to life with animated evolving sounds. All modulators can be synced for massive rhythmic sounds.
The analogue hack
Evolver is a digital/analogue hybrid synth. It means the oscillators and filters are analogue, but the on-board effects (feedback, delay, distortion, hi-pass filter and mixer) are all digital. This concept is a very serviceable feature for performers, but a bit annoying for us – we don’t need the digital effects, we want to use the original analogue sounds!
The “analogue hack” is a way to achieve this: it taps the analogue signals before the onboard effects’ AD converters and leads it out as two separated dual mono channels. (This hardware modification needs a skilled technician, so many thanks to the absolute team!)
The results are true analogue sounds, without the unnecessary extra AD/DA conversions. Thanks to the modern DAWs, we can use VSTi effect arsenal in a much more flexible and complex way – and this is our big goal!
