Pre-Class: Introduction and Dedication
Before class begins, there are a few things you need to do to be prepared for the first day. Charlie explains how to set up and what you need to have and do in advance to get the most out of the course.
Days 1-19: End-to-End Writing and Production
In this portion of the class, Charlie goes through the entire writing and production process, creating an original song in real time, from start to finish. He goes through the entire song development process, including how he comes up with ideas and starts a song, writes melodies and lyrics, records harmonies, produces synths, drums, bass, and other instrumentals, and mixes and finishes the track. You’ll follow Charlie step-by-step and finish this portion with your own original song.
Days 20-30: Exploring New Sounds and Styles
In the second part of the class, Charlie will discuss how he is evolving as an artist and producer by experimenting with unfamiliar sounds and styles. For his second song, he will intentionally create an “uncomfortable” song that includes instruments, chords, and lyrical themes he has never used before. You will follow Charlie to create a second original song that will challenge you to expand your creative range as a songwriter and producer.
