Janet Damita Jo Jackson is an American singer, songwriter, producer, dancer and actress. Born in Gary, Indiana, Janet grew up in Los Angeles. Janet is the youngest in the legendary Jackson family. She first appeared on stage at the age of 7, in 1976 she starred in the TV series The Jacksons. Until the early 1980s, Jackson starred in TV series, including Good Times and Diff’erent Strokes.
At the age of 16, Jackson signed a contract with the A&M record label, which released an album of the same name in 1982. She was criticized for her very modest vocal skills and “star” family. Jackson worked on her third album, Control, with producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, which brought her fame and made her an MTV idol. Her subsequent album, Rhythm Nation 1814, became a huge success in her career. All seven singles from the album reached the top five of the most prestigious American chart, Billboard Hot 100, and the album itself became the best-selling album in the United States in 1990. The album has sold over 14 million copies worldwide. In 1991, Jackson signed a multimillion-dollar contract with Virgin Records, becoming one of the highest-paid performers in the world. Her first album on the label, Janet, changed the singer’s public image and made her a sex symbol.[1] In 1993, Jackson starred in the film Poetic Justice. At the end of the decade, Jackson was named the second most successful singer of the 1990s. All for You became the singer’s fifth album to debut at number one on the Billboard 200. In 2007, Janet released the album Discipline. According to Billboard magazine, Janet is one of the best-selling artists in the history of modern pop music, having sold more than 100 million records worldwide. The Recording Industry Association of America ranked her as the 11th best-selling American female artist.
