In the early 70’s we wondered if it were possible to create identical tones on two unrelated synthesizers…….. like ARP 2600 vs MiniMoog……. I didn’t know about the Oberheim platform until the Electronic Music Production course at Long Beach City College (mid 70’s!!!!). Their synth lab included a 4-voice Oberheim which was four SEM;s racked together with keyboard. I could say that “identical” tones is possible but the Oberheim just had a voice of its own, due to the uniqueness of design in the filters that was different to the other brands.
