Description: Depeche Mode is a British musical group formed in 1980 in the city of Basildon (Essex County). This group created its own style in the genres of electronic and rock music and is one of the most successful and long-lived groups in the world. On November 2, 2006, Depeche Mode won the nomination “Best Group” at the MTV Europe Music Awards. By 2010, about 100 million copies of Depeche Mode albums had been sold, and 44 singles entered the British hit parade.
Depeche Mode’s work was influenced by German pioneers of electronic music Kraftwerk[1]. Depeche Mode have since become a major influence on many artists, largely due to their recording techniques and innovative use of sampling. Despite their significant influence on modern electronic dance music, the band is generally considered to be part of the “alternative music” genre.
Depeche Mode formed in 1980 as a quartet consisting of Dave Gahan (lead vocals), Martin Gore (keyboards, guitar, vocals), Andy Fletcher (keyboards), and Vince Clarke (keyboards). Vince Clarke left the band after the release of their debut album in 1981. He was replaced by Alan Wilder (keyboards, drums), who played in the band from 1982 to 1995. After Alan’s departure, the band formed as a trio, and currently consists of Gahan, Gore, and Fletcher.
