first applied his signature style to his avant-garde compositions in the mid-1940s. He inserted bolts, nuts, fragments of rubber, cardboard, plastic, and other objects between the piano strings. The piano was recorded with close-miked pianos, allowing for the ability to apply reverb to suit individual tastes.
