Description:
A stereo compressor based on classic British VCA topology. Features transformer saturation, program-dependent release, and 4x oversampling.
I created this because, in every session, I kept reaching for the same classic British console-style compressor—but none of the ones I could afford sounded quite right. They were either too clean, too slow, or simply not the right fit. So, I modeled the circuit myself.
“Not Another Glue-Comp” utilizes a VCA circuit with transformer saturation, which adds harmonic density without overloading the low frequencies. The compression reacts to your program material: faster on transients, and slower on sustained signals.

What it actually does:* Program-dependent auto-release: release time adapts to your source material, reacting faster to transients and slower to sustained content
* Transformer saturation adds 2nd and 3rd-order harmonics without distorting lower-level signals
* VCA non-linearities provide a distinct character that you won’t get from purely digital designs
* 4x oversampling for processing high-frequency content without aliasing
Use it on:
* Mix bus: 1–3 dB of gain reduction to add cohesion without crushing the signal
* Drum bus: enhances punch and tightens up the kit
* Any stereo bus where you need density without flattening the dynamics
Threshold, Ratio, Attack, Release, Makeup Gain, Mix. Plus a sidechain high-pass filter (30–185 Hz) to exclude kick drums and bass from the detection circuit.
