The flagship lineup of the revolutionary Roland SH series includes some of the most powerful synthesizers of all time: the SH-101, SH-1, SH-3A, SH-7… the list goes on. And while these synthesizers all sound great, the SH-5 is undoubtedly the king, boasting oscillators, multi-mode filters, extensive modulation capabilities, and a brilliant mixer. In our opinion, the SH-5 is one of the most remarkable Roland monosynths ever made.
Voice architecture and history.
Produced from 1976 to 1981, the SH-5 resembles the System 100/700 modular units. It features analog oscillators and multi-mode filters that do not lose bass when resonance is applied (unlike the SH-7). There is also a resonant band-pass filter that can be used in parallel, yielding amazing results. Add a white/pink noise generator, ring modulation, semi-modular LFOs, and precise oscillator sync, and itβs no surprise that this synth can cover such a wide sonic spectrum! It is capable of everything from vocal-like tones to hallucinogenic sounds. The SH-5 is a Roland powerhouse, delivering unbeatable bass, massive leads, and wild FX! Content
