Description:
This small amplifier is incredibly versatile, despite its simple single-channel configuration with volume and tone controls. It’s one of the best-sounding amps we’ve ever tried, with both clean and overdriven sound.
It excels in its abundance of detail and articulation. At clean settings, the tone control is essentially overkill at maximum, requiring you to back it off a bit to achieve a usable range.
What’s great about this amp is that you never get the feeling, as with many other amps, that it would sound perfect if only you could add a little more detail. We haven’t seen another amp that’s so articulate at truly clean settingsβ€”usually you have to crank up the volume to get such a sensitive and lively response, and that’s where the clarity of the sound is lost.
In crunch mode, it has a punchy character, plenty of headroom, and easily handles classic rock without boosters or pedals.
The amp was recorded through a 1×12 cabinet using a Mojo BV-25M speaker, two Royer R121 microphones, one Beyerdynamic M16 microphone, and one Neumann U87 microphone.
