Korn (sometimes written as “KoRn” or “KoЯn”, authentic to the band’s logo) is a multi-platinum American nu metal band from Bakersfield, California.
They are considered the founders of the nu metal genre. They laid the foundations for the music, which is a mixture of grunge, funk and groove metal, to which industrial and hip hop were often added. After selling over 3 million copies worldwide of their self-titled debut album, released in 1994, Korn became one of the best-selling heavy metal bands of the last decade. The band’s discography includes ten studio albums, an acoustic album, MTV Unplugged, and numerous compilation albums featuring unreleased, live, and cover versions.
The band has released nine albums that have consistently charted in the top ten of the Billboard 200, including the Greatest Hits vol. 1 and the acoustic/live album, MTV Unplugged: Korn. To date, the band has sold approximately 50 million albums worldwide, including over 16 million copies in the United States, and has been nominated for and won two Grammy Awards.
Since See You on the Other Side, the band has incorporated synthesizers and keyboards into their music to create a more atmospheric, industrial sound than their previous hip-hop and funk influences.
The band released their untitled eighth album (Untitled) on July 31, 2007 through EMI/Virgin. The album debuted at number eight on the Billboard charts, selling 123,000 copies in its first week of release.
In July 2010, the band released their ninth studio album, Korn III: Remember Who You Are, marking a return to their roots, the raw sound and lyrics of their first two albums. The album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200. To date, it has sold approximately 200,000 copies worldwide.
