Description :
The Sound of the UBK-2
In 2012, Kush released the UBK-1 into a world where no one expected plug-in compressors to have any special
or interesting vibes. Built on the precise models of the strange and aggressive curves developed by Gregory Scott for UBK’s mysterious Fatso hardware, the UBK-1 was the first plug-in to give ITB mixers a motion- and groove-based
tool that allowed blindly turning a few knobs to quickly achieve sounds and textures that were generally the same as those from other mixers, unexpected and new, but still useful.
The UBK-2 retains all the features of the original – one big knob for adjusting more or less compression, quick
switching via preset attack-release-knee curves, the richness of the analog sound –
and it all remains unchanged, you can use the UBK-2 in the same way you used the UBK-1.
Plus, you can dive deeper and have some degree of control over virtually every aspect of the UBK-2’s features.
3 new compression modes allow you to do compression types not possible with the UBK-1,
including a very creamy, low-ratio compression curve for delicate work like mixing,
all 8 compression curves have adjustable base press and release times, speeding them up or slowing them down,
and they all offer precise gain matching, so you can switch between them freely
while keeping gain reduction and overall gain consistent.
The UBK-2 complements the updated compressor section with two newly tuned saturation engines, one before and one after compression,
each tuned to suit the types of transients it’s likely to encounter.
Old school. The pre-everything 4-band EQ uses Kush’s new Magpha-powered EQ algorithms.
And all of that linear and non-linear processing can now be monitored via Kush’s signature tri-meter display,
first seen on the dirt-catching Silika compressor. This VU meter makes it easy
to quickly monitor input and output levels, gain reduction, or all three at once.
The ability to adjust saturation and compression while seeing how it affects the output signal’s variation
compared to other parameters. input signal and level – easily compare the two… The Tri-Meter is a deceptively
powerful workflow enhancer, consider getting to know it better.
We hope that UBK-2 represents a significant step up from the original, while retaining the character
and ease of use that made the original plugin so popular and beloved,
and which still remains relevant 12 years after its release.
List of changes :
v1.0.3
• Added oversampling toggle.
• Plugin goes into “low latency mode” when OS is shut down.
• CPU optimizations.
• Fixed a bug that caused system lag/crashes when running multiple instances of UBK-2.
• Fixed a bug that could cause Cubase to crash randomly on some systems.
• Added Comp Bypass feature – pressing the VU meter OR toggle switch will now bypass comp gain and make-up.
• Added EQ bypass feature.
• Changed GUI to accommodate new controls and tidy up some others.
• Added option to select smaller GUI during installation.
R2R INFO :
The witch says:
• No iLok driver installation required to run.
• Our release loads faster and uses less memory than the legal version.
Version 1.0.3 has SD/HD GUI support, but this release only includes HD because SD is buggy.
