Description : The warm vintage pianos of a certain analog grace the wallpaper of our memories, filling us with a nostalgic glow that is often sought after but rarely captured. Analog jazz keyboards, in particular, have fueled the fires of sample-based genres from hip-hop to house to the yet-to-be-named. We enlisted Aron Magner and his keys to take us to that place of memory. Magner is a jazz keyboardist, co-founder of the Disco Biscuits and creator of the much-attended Camp Bisco music festival. More importantly, Magner has a knack for his fingers. He showed us what’s in classic pop, disco and jazz with some of our favorite vintage keys and a few surprises, including his synth: the Access Virus TI2. He also recorded melodies, bass lines and chords on a Moog Model D, Prophet T8, Wurlitzer 200A, Clavinet D6, Juno 60, Rhodes mark 1 and Korg Poly 61. Drums were done on a rare Gibson Maestro and Acetone FR1 drum machines. We recorded the Magner performance using Neve 1081 and 1073 preamps and outboard effects.
