Anyone curious about ASMR, it’s been made into a cliche that most often has NO relevance to what it actually is. I consider it a gift; I’ve known about it for……. lots of years…….. certain sounds trigger an incredible state of tranquility. If I were to get a job as a reading tutor to kids, I wouldn’t last long. The sound of the pages turning, the sound of the kid trying to work through a word……. I could easily doze off. Where I worked most of my years, we had a 90-minute lunch. I lived nearby, could run home, flip on a mid-day craft show on cable TV and drift into bliss—a “cat nap” at the sound of scissors cutting paper and fabric, the sound of objects like pencils and markers drawing or being rummaged through. I then got a wonderful office mate…… a little tiny lady born and raised in a jungle village in Honduras, she loved to sew by hand. She was about 80, her entire responsibility was archiving classified materiel…… a couple hours a week, if that…… the rest of the time she sewed. Scissors cutting paper and fabric is LETHAL 🙂 So many slow days I could just nod off to those sounds. So there ya go….. ASMR. It’s all about wiring in particular peoples’ ears and quite the gift. It begins with a sudden relaxation and tingling from scalp to back and down the arms. Now, there is something about the ASMR “me too” video makers…… they’ve never experienced it, they all do the same things they saw in other peoples’ videos. A few of them actually do have the condition and nail it 🙂
To this day (night) I have a couple YouTube videos of children reading stories aloud and it’s the most relaxing effective sleep inducer. Better than Xanax addiction…… I probably win a world’s record in that, 14 years clean now.
